Festival Success

WCP's 2010 festival entry, Anniversary, a new one-act play by WCP playwright Stephen Smith, had great success with two awards and two nominations at Sawton Drama Festival. Steve won the Best New Play award, and Christine Easterfield won the award for Best Supporting Actress. In addition, highlighting the strength of the acting, Tim Boden was nominated for Best Actor, and Val Furness for Best Actress. Below, Steve and Christine receiving their awards from adjudicator Charles Evans and our very own Chris Shinn.

The play can be seen again at the Cambridge Drama Festival (Mumford Theatre, East Road Cambridge 19-24 April, 7:30pm) on Friday April 23rd.

Anniversary has a cast of five comprising Tim Boden, Wendy Croft, Christine Easterfield, Valmai Fumess and David Morris and will be directed by Stephen Smith. Your support at Cambridge would be much appreciated.

As well as the awards for WCP's entry, We Make Babies, which can be seen as one half of our Spring Double Bill, took the joint prize for Third Place.

Spring Production

Our Spring production comprises two entertaining plays by local authors.

For Starters was last year's award winning festival entry: Directed by Julie Petrucci, this charming and entertaining play watches how Roland, a rather particular customer, and Daisy, a unique and inquisitive waitress, gradually grow and learn from each other. The father, daughter team of Stephen and Kattreya Smith reprise the roles of Roland and Daisy, for which Kattreya took Best Junior Performance/Best Actress under 18 awards at Sawston and Cambridge, and the play took second place at Sawston.

We Make Babies, by Sean Abbs, is a surreal comedy drama: Baby meets parents. Things get messy. Two twentysomethings soon find out there is a lot more to having a baby than meets the eye. Parenting isn’t all it’s cracked up to be and the baby isn’t the only thing causing sleepless nights. A search for the answers reaches the summit of a windswept mountain where they see more than just the view. We Make Babies stars Kattreya Smith and Sean Abbs.

Quiz Night

Our annual quiz night (Quizmaster the ever-reliable John Orrock) was well attended, with four teams of four plus a roving Joker (Maurice Leeke). As is traditional, the team that Maurice was on (only initially, but that's obviously what counts) won the trophy after a very enjoyable (if occasionally contentious) evening. Below, the winners Simon, Rosie, Steve and Linda.
